The magnificent scenery surrounded by deep ravines is known as “Sapporo’s Inner Parlor.” Many facilities in the hot spring town allow day-use bathing, where you can enjoy the sodium chloride spring water, which retains heat well. The breathtaking seasonal views from the open-air baths and lunch package deals are also popular.

Jozankei has several free foot bath spots. “Shiki no Seseragi Futami no Ashiyu” boasts a magnificent semi-open-air view overlooking the Toyohira River gorge. At “Jozan Gensen Park,” you can also enjoy making hot spring eggs. These are relaxing spots where you can easily stop during sightseeing and warm yourself from the core.

The autumn leaves in Jozankei (usually early to mid-October) are captivating, thanks to the stunning scenery created by the valley’s rock faces and the water’s edge.
The majestic autumn colors reflecting on the dam lake at Hoheikyo Dam are a must-see (electric bus required). In the hot spring town, walking routes around the red Futami Suspension Bridge and an aerial walk on the autumn leaves gondola are also popular.
